My 17-year old daughter shops at Hollister.  And, on a few trips where I accompanied her (as the payment system), I spotted some cute things…for me.  I decided to make a trip back to the store, on a day when the teenagers would be in school to see if dressing my age at Hollister was possible.  At 61, challenge accepted!

Items that worked Well (for my age)

Pants

I have always liked their pants (on her, of course) they have very cute cargo-type pants in a variety of styles and sizes.  Many of them had an elastic waist, which on my body type tends to travel up and become high-rise, as I lamented in this post.

I did find some very cute, wide leg cargo pants in a lightweight, cotton twill fabric that were in my mid-rise comfort zone.  They had multiple colors. These are a great, casual jean-replacement pant (actual item is the “low rise baggy cargo pant” .  I bought them in green and the blue.  Although, I may exchange the blue for the taupe.

Good cut for me and super comfortable.

This color can be a neutral, everyday pant.
This shade of blue is a little unexpected.

Tops

They also had some cute tops.  Many were of the cropped variety, which I generally steer away from.  But in the dressing room, I said, “why not” and tried on a short white cardigan. In the end, I couldn’t bring it home.  I did buy a white collared sweater that doesn’t quite hit the waist of the pants.  So, on the spectrum of crop-tops, this one is mild.

I also found a cute blue cotton sweater which will be the perfect weight to wear in spring/summer.

Great, versatile top.
This ended up being a little to cropped.
Love the faded blue of this sweater. Will go with lots of outfits.

Things I stayed clear of (at my age)

I didn’t even look at the jeans, stretchy pants or the sweatpants.  They had a ton and they look cute for the younger girls.  I have enough with my new-found loungewear looks.

They also had a ton of cute tops for the younger crowd.  Tube-tops, tanks, cropped everything.  They did have a few flowy shirts and dresses that were cute, but I don’t typically wear flowy.

Gold Star for the Hollister Sales Associates

I will say, I was impressed with the sales staff at Hollister.  They were very helpful in finding sizes, etc.  And, I did not feel the slightest side-eye from them.  Maybe they were happy to deal with a more mature clientele.

Recap: Dressing My Age, Hollister Edition

I walked away very pleased with my new items — two sweaters and two pair of pants. They will be great transitional pieces as the weather gets nicer.  And, now that I’ve had success dressing my age at Hollister…what other stores can I try?
